When his kids started dreaming beyond their four walls, Michael Goins from My Wonderful Walls grabbed his paints. After hand-painting a mural in their oldest son’s room, he had a “light bulb” moment. How great would it be to make giant stencil kits that would easily allow all parents to paint their own wall mural?! Well, turns out his wife Stephanie loved the idea too, and My Wonderful Walls was born! Before long, Michael added fabric wall stickers for those not wanting or able to paint. The couple runs the business together in Tennessee where they’ve recently been able to move the stencil and sticker making out of their basement and to a dedicated space. Recently their family was featured in Edge magazine and they continue to donate their time and skills to local schools in the Chattanooga area. They have added hundreds of new kids’ wall decor products to their online store and also offer elegant, unique designs for grown-ups. And all of their products are created with the person who can’t draw a stick figure in mind. Amy Hart and Bronwen Jackson from Waialua, HI started finding amazing shells at a secret spot in January 2012. Pretty soon, they were taking over the house and the pair decided they had better start using them! Amy took classes at the local bead shop and from other local artists and Flattery Designs was born in March 2012 as a way to bring the aloha of the island to others. Now these artists make affordable hand crafted, one of a kind items using hand collected Hawaiian shells, sea glass, and driftwood like this lovely driftwood and shell mirror. Amy’s ten year old daughter Eve has become a great help with the business. She goes on extreme shell hunts with Amy and Bronwen all over the North Shore for hours on end and helps clean and organize the shells. Recently, she started drilling and designing her own things! |

Shannon Lee is a college student financing her education through photography. Shannon recently opened her shop in the hopes of sharing and supporting her passion. She hails from San Luis Obispo, CA where she enjoys knitting, Thai food and sloths in addition to photography. All the pieces in her Etsy shop are original - composed, shot, edited, printed and signed on the back by Shannon. Janice Marie, a Caribbean girl living in Seguin, TX says her mother used to say she was like a mouse because she would scurry around the house looking for things to use in her next creation. She has had a passion for creating since a very young age and now uses that creativity in her Etsy shop, Factory of Ideas. Janice is also an interior designer, event decorator and crafter. Her favorite thing to do is come up with custom pieces for her customers and she considers herself like a “factory of ideas”. Sisters Nancy DeVries and Linda Nolte were inspired at an early age to sew by their mother who used to sew clothes for their Barbie dolls. They love creating and sewing products with style and usefulness and opened Maggie Ann’s as a tribute to their mom. Nancy still uses her mom’s 1953 Singer sewing machine and says it works like a dream. The sisters are separated by a little bit of distance with Nancy in Minnesota and Linda in Iowa but the pair pride themselves on creating quality items and providing great customer service. They love talking to both customers and other Etsy sellers so don’t be shy about sending them a convo! This extra-large tote bag features a lively “Under the Sea” fabric in tones of blue, aqua, yellow and orange. Amanda Thompson from Bothell, WA is a mom to two amazing children Madison and Logan who expresses her creativity by sewing stylish, functional products. Amanda says she created Maddy Wear because her daughter would pull off every bib she managed to find, and she would have to resort to sitting her on a vinyl tablecloth in the middle of the floor. After 6 months of that, Amanda started to work on a bib design that Maddy couldn't remove, provided great coverage, and was a stylish addition to her wardrobe. After a few years of selling her bibs locally through friends and family she decided to open up an Etsy shop. Her goal is rescue one outfit at a time! Amanda’s bibs are great for the environment and your pocket book too as they can be used up to four times (or more) prior to being washed. The front and back can be utilized as well as reversing the bib and using those sides as well. Most users will let the bib air dry between uses and flip it around. As a stay-at-home mommy of two-under-two in Mechanicsburg, PA, Jennifer N. Buczynski doesn’t have much time for creativity during the day. But when the kids are asleep, her hook and yarn come out for special mommy play time! Jennifer started her shop when she realized she didn't want her own house overrun with her creations, and realized, as many families do, they needed supplemental income. Jennifer and her husband brainstormed for names, and Faithfully Hooked was born. The name represents her Christian faith and also represents that she is continually crocheting! Although she started her Etsy shop in January 2013, Jennifer says she is just now starting to "stock" up and really focus on it, so she hopes to have lots of new items soon! Sasswatch makes, in the words of creator Cassie Strickland, "sassy stuff customized with your favorite fabric swatch." Cassie started more than 20 years ago with fabric-wrapped flowerpots, selling them in Indiana, New York City and San Diego, California, before opening her shop to a wider audience on Etsy. For her wedding, she wanted to create unique favors for her guests, which led to the fabric-wrapped candleholder. Recently, she expanded to offer switch plates and outlet covers in a variety of designs. This single-toggle Blue Octopus switch plate is covered in 100% cotton fabric, and is sealed with a protective coating for easy cleaning and durability. Besides a really cool shop name, Karen Larkin can boast that her Etsy shop has filled orders for several thousand pillow slipcovers, shipping to all 50 states and over 90 countries! The response has been amazing and Karen says she absolutely LOVES what she is doing! As an added bonus, her pillow covers were featured on the Nate Berkus Show, have been on HGTV's DIY Network and also in Good Housekeeping magazine. They have even been enjoyed by the president during his family's Christmas vacation in Hawaii! That’s pretty wonderful for a shop that’s been around just over two years! Karen began sewing when she was 7 or 8 years old. A miniature pink plastic sewing machine was one of her most cherished childhood possessions. Now she’s able to use the grown up version of that pink sewing machine to create decorative pillow covers from her Westerville, OH studio. She’s even brought her mom and best friend in on the act! |
