Extreme couponing: how to decorate on a dime

Extreme CouponingWhile not everyone is cut out for the life of an extreme coupon diva, such as has been seen on the new TLC show, the truth is that everyone can score stellar deals for decorating their homes without spending a ton of time and energy in the process. With just a few savings-savvy tips, you will be on your way to making the most of your hard-earned dollars while giving your home the wonderful makeover it deserves.

Scan your local paper. Most papers have coupon inserts on Sundays, as well as store-specific circulars. While these are not necessarily indicative of breathtaking savings, it is helpful to know if a product is already on sale somewhere before you purchase it at a different store unaware that you could have saved some cash.

  1. Check social media sites for quick deals. Sites like Facebook, Groupon, Tippr, Living Socialand more have become go-to websites for people looking for one-of-a-kind coupons and offers, as well as for customer appreciation-type offers. From ½ off flooring to discount canvas wall art, you are sure to find something to fit with whatever projects you have in mind – all you have to do is be on the lookout for the next great deal.

  2. Follow coupon websites. Instead of running yourself ragged trying to keep up with the endless waves of new deals and coupons – both online and offline – let the professionals do the legwork for you. By subscribing to one or more of the many coupon sites available, you will reduce your time spent bargain-hunting and have more time to do what you really want to: redecorate and spruce up your home. Some of the most popular websites include the Krazy Coupon Lady, Full Price? Never!, Woman Freebies, Coupons.com, the Super Coupon Lady, and Fabulously Frugal, just to name a few. No matter what site or sites you follow, though, be sure that they cover stores and deals in your area, unless the deals are all online, as there is nothing worse than getting excited about a great bargain only to find out there is not a store carrying that product within 100 miles.

  3. When in doubt, ask for discounts. As the old adage goes, “Ask and you shall receive.” This may sound strange in this day and age, but many retailers are more than happy to swing you a deal if you talk to them about it. Will it be a screaming 50% off deal? Not likely. However, you can still potentially bring the price of an item that you just have to have – coupon or no coupon – down just a little bit, and that is well worth your time and effort in the long run.

When it all comes down to it, redecorating your home does not have to be an exorbitantly expensive event. Many companies happily offer deals and discounts, whether they are advertised or not. Even here at My Wonderful Walls we love a good deal; check out our Facebook page, as we often offer sales and discounts of our own!
