 Transportation Themed Boys Room

We are always tickled here at My Wonderful Walls to hear from customers from other countries, just imagining our wall stickers or stencil kits travelling from our home here in Tennessee across oceans and time zones! We were especially happy to hear from Rachel and Nick in Brighton, on the South Coast of the UK with the story of how their Transportation Themed Mural for their son, Isaac, came alive. These parents described their lives as busy with a 3 year old son and a baby on the way but count themselves lucky to live in the best place on earth where once the tourists leave on a Sunday, the locals can enjoy lazy summer evenings on the beach.

Isaac, age 3, has always been in love with cars, planes, trains, lorries… all things moving so making him a Transportation themed mural made perfect sense. Nick and Rachel managed to keep the room a surprise until it was all done to give him the full effect. They chose stencils to create their mural as it gave them more flexibility on where to put the different elements and how many of each they could do. Not having worked with wall stickers or wall stencils before, the pair found the video tutorials a great help in planning their boys bedroom mural and said the customer photo gallery gave them inspiration as well as confidence to go for it.

Rachel described their artistic comfort level as low and remarked that My Wonderful Walls stencils were perfect for them as they wanted to still give Isaac an imaginative bedroom mural. The project took two days to complete, one day for the rolling hills and sky and another for the stenciling. One extra touch they used was painting the ceiling sky blue as well so no matter where you look, you are in the scene. They used the fire engine stencil to create a lorry and used some different color combinations to make their mural unique. One tip they had for other folks using our stencils was to make a fold on the edge of the stencil to make it easy to peel off and then press the stencil down really well to avoid the paint from bleeding.  Great tip! When asked what their favorite part of the transportation mural is, mom picked the train while dad picked the rocket and of course Isaac had his own pick, the fire engine!

These parents from across the pond reported they enjoyed the mural stenciling process and actually found it therapeutic. Rachel remarked that they will be creating a nursery for Isaac’s baby brother soon as well and will be coming back to My Wonderful Walls which is of course music to our ears! She loved that the stencils only took just over a week to arrive from Tennessee and showed up in perfect condition. My Wonderful Walls also got the thumbs up when Rachel excitedly emailed the office to tell us about her son’s room and got a lovely email response from Stephanie which Rachel said made it feel very personal. (That’s what we love about our business!) All in all Rachel and Nick said the whole process was great fun and they wouldn’t change a thing!
