Pet Wall Stencils

When parents can’t decide on the nursery décor theme it can be very stressful. For parents Jill and John in Dunlap, IL after a bit of searching the pair both fell in love with our Paws Park Stencil Kit for their new baby boy Griffin. They painted the mural while Jill was still pregnant and found that it was the perfect theme for these dog loving parents! Mom even discovered the painting gave her a little bit of “me” time which she thoroughly enjoyed.  Here’s what Jill had to say about using our animal themed stencils:

My Wonderful Walls: For whom was the wall mural intended?

Jill:  This mural was finished in April 2013 and was for my son's nursery.  Griffin was born in July 2013.

MWW:  Tell us a little about why you choose the dog and cat theme for the nursery.

Jill:  When my husband and I found out we were having a boy, we couldn't seem to agree on a theme for his room.  I didn't like tractors and he wasn't a big fan of the other boy themes I came up with.  We have textured walls in most of our house, so we knew we couldn't just slap some decals on the wall and call it finished.  He came up with the idea to do a stencil kit and found the adorable Paws Park Stencil Kit.  Being dog lovers, we both fell in love with the theme and knew we had to use it in our son's room.  Everything, down to his crib sheets has some kind of dog theme and we just love it!

MWW:  What was your child's reaction to the wall mural when he first saw it?

Jill:  He's only 7 months old, so we haven't seen his reaction yet, but he does love to sit and look around the room.  Our three year old daughter loves the room and is always trying to choose her favorite animal on the walls.  She loved it so much we figured she would want it to be her room!

MWW:  Why did you choose stencils over stickers?

Jill:  Because we have textured walls.  We were still skeptical to use the stencil kit after reading your website because we saw where it said it worked best on non-textured walls.  We decided to give it a try anyway, and the results speak for themselves. The animals are not perfect on the edges, but we just think it gives the room more character and we are so proud of ourselves for how it turned out!

MWW:    How long did it take you to complete the project?

Jill:  One month

MWW:  Describe your artistic comfort level.

Jill:  Neither one of us are very artistic at all.  My husband painted the sky and hills (free hand) and I did all the stenciling.  It definitely took a lot of patience and time to do the stencils, but it was very easy to do and I think I impressed myself!

MWW:  Did you add any personal touches to the standard wall mural you received?

Jill:  We added two pink paws under the Chihuahua stencil to symbolize our 2 female Chihuahuas.  I also added a framed saying (in corresponding colors) - "Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tails, That's What Little Boys are Made Of."

MWW:  Do you have a favorite piece or favorite scene you created? If so, please describe.

Jill:  Probably the little Chihuahua is my favorite stencil, just because we have two of them.

MWW:  Do you have any helpful tips for people who use our products?

Jill:  I found that dabbing the paint on with a foam brush worked the best to get the paint in all the grooves of the textured walls.  I hand painted each stencil and never used a roller for any of them because it just didn't give the coverage we needed.

MWW:  Tell us a little bit about your experience with our stencils or the My Wonderful Walls team in general.

Jill:  Loved the product and actually kept the stencils for future use when we move furniture or get some different sized stuff. The stencils really held their stickiness no matter how many times they were used.
