Self-Adhesive Wall Stencils Ideal to Create Sibling’s Room Murals 0
Home improvement projects are so much better when they are a family affair as proven by mother and daughter team Tamara and Becky. Tamara was kind enough to share the pictures of the two rooms they created with our wall stencils for Becky’s son Jackson, then age 4 ½ and daughter Caroline, age 3. Though Tamara has been stenciling for 30 years she was thrilled to find our wall stencils and found them a great way to create a professional looking wall mural for any child’s room or nursery.
Tamara said as a young mother on a tight budget she found stenciling a great way to give her kids fun and interesting rooms since paint was inexpensive and you could change it easily. Her husband was in the military and since they moved a lot, she was always creating new rooms but found it lots of fun. Tamara even won Volunteer of the Year in Florida because she learned how to be very crafty with very little resources at her kids’ school. But now in her role as grandma she has just as much fun helping her kids with projects for their own children. Tamara had already helped with the décor in two of her other grandchildren’s rooms so when Becky bought her own house and Jackson and Caroline had rooms with blank walls, it was time to get to work again. She found My Wonderful Walls on the internet but didn’t buy right away, searching in stores and online for what would be the best décor.
The themes were pretty easy; Caroline was already a sweet princess and loved the big tree with a swing Grandma had in her and Jackson’s room at her house. Jackson loved cars, planes and trains so his theme was easy. As she searched for the right products, Tamara kept coming back to My Wonderful Walls. She found it interesting that the stencils needed no tape and would cling to the wall so after years of stenciling, she thought this would be so cool and easier to work with so she gave us a try.
Becky and Tamara spent time looking at the site and talking over the phone to choose what stencils they wanted. They ended up deciding to go with the flower garden stencils and princess stencils for Caroline’s room so she could have elements from both and the Transportation Fascination Stencil Kit for Jackson's room. Tamara went to Becky’s house to help with the rooms as Becky had never stenciled before. She quickly became a pro though and Tamara left a lot of the final touches to her after she went home to Kentucky. It took the pair about a week and a half total to complete the two murals with the kids having to share rooms so Mom and Grandma could work steadily on one room or the other. Tamara found our stencils were easy to work with and had such little paint bleed which she loved. She also liked the ability to be able to reuse them. But said the best part was being able to go to her daughter’s house and work on it together.
They added a lot of unique touches to both rooms with paint and accessories. For example, they painted faces on everyone and painted a princess into the carriage in Caroline’s room and added rings to the unicorn’s horn. In Jackson’s room, Tamara painted in the clouds using a sea sponge and white stencil paint, a technique she’s been using for years. They added lights to the city scene and Becky put Jackson’s picture in the space rocket which he thought was pretty cool.
Tamara’s tips for anyone just starting out on their wall mural? “Just take your time have fun. Plan what you’re going to do before you start even laying the stencils out. Make sure you know where your furniture is going. But most of all have fun and think out of the box like the child that is going to be in the room!”
Great advice and what great rooms this dynamic duo created! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and pictures with us Tamara.
Princess Themed Room Becomes a Safe Space for Emily 0
Emily is a beautiful little girl with autism who is non-verbal and loves princesses. Her parents wanted to create a safe space for her where she could go to calm down when she was feeling a little hyper. Mom, Carolyn, says being a parent to a special needs child is a challenge but every day is a gift and she lives to see her daughter smile. Carolyn and her husband knew that to make this room feel secure for Emily it had to be a beautiful, inviting space. With her love of princesses, creating a princess themed mural seemed like a great solution. Mom and dad chose to use stencils and paint their own mural rather than stickers for more permanent decor and the results were phenomenal. After such a wonderful experience with the Princess Stencil Kit, Carolyn enlisted the help of her church day care students to create a safari themed mural for the church nursery! Here is more on these two great projects.
My Wonderful Walls: Tell us who helped out with this great Princess Bedroom and Jungle Safari Wall Mural.
Carolyn: Linda (Gramma), Fred (dad) and myself did the princess room and the kids at St. Pat helped me with the Jungle Safari mural.
MWW: Where did you create your murals?
Carolyn: Fayetteville, NC USA
MWW: Who was the wall mural for?
Carolyn: Emily (Lilybug) is 7 years old. She is non-verbal and Autistic and loves all things princesses! Then of course since I run the daycare for my church, I decided to paint a mural in the church nursery for the kids as well.
MWW: Tell us a little about why you choose this theme.
Carolyn: Emily needed more space. She is a very hyper child due to her autism, so often throughout the day she needs a space to just be herself and calm down. We decided to turn the large room over the garage into her new bedroom/safe room, but were worried about how she would react to this new environment. Emily loves princesses so I knew right away we were going to make her new room a princess retreat for her. We kept telling her she was going to be moving into a pretty, pretty princess room soon and started hunting online for ideas. We needed something permanent because stickers and things of that nature do not last long with Emily. When I saw the Perfectly Princess stencil and paint kit from My Wonderful Walls I just knew it would be perfect!
MWW: Do your kids ever make up stories or create imaginary games involving the characters/scenes on their walls?
Carolyn: I imagine she does. I'll often catch her babbling at the animals or castle or princess and I can't help but think she must be happy in he own world with all her magical friends.
MWW: What is your artistic comfort level?
Carolyn: I consider myself creative, but not a painter by any means. I watched your YouTube videos on how to make the hills and clouds (I'm still planning on painting clouds on the ceiling). I also looked at pictures of what other people had done on your website to get some inspiration. But really, the stencils did all the work. In fact, it was so easy that I decided to order a kit for our church daycare and let the kids do the painting. I ordered it and as soon as it arrived we got to work (more like play)! They had a blast and it turned out so wonderfully. Their parents were really proud to have their kids help beautify the church and we had a safari themed church nursery in just two days!
MWW: Did you add any personal touches to your mural?
Carolyn: I added some water to the fountain and gave the princess longer hair like Rapunzel.
MWW: What did you enjoy most about the mural making process?
Carolyn: I enjoyed being able to create such a magical space for my little girl. Every day I see her in it just brings me so much joy.
MWW: How long did it take to complete your project?
Carolyn: about a week
MWW: Do you have a favorite scene or element in the mural?
Carolyn: My favorite part is actually the hills. I couldn't believe how easy it was and how much depth it added to the mural. Your YouTube videos really helped with that!
MWW: Have you ever used other stickers or stencils before from other companies? How do ours stack up?
Carolyn: I've used other stickers and they just don't hold up to my girl, but this painted mural is going to last forever!
What a great testimonial to our products! Carolyn tells us they also purchased some extra animal stencils to use in Emily's ABA Therapy/playroom. Sometimes a room is more than just a room! We adore these murals and are thrilled that the princess room can be a safe haven for Emily. Whether you have a knack for DIY projects or you are a total novice, our stencils can help you to create an equally beautiful space for your child. Don’t feel like painting? We have princess wall decal kits as well as many other kids room themes and watch for matching accessories in the coming months as well.
Ocean Loving Twins Get an Under the Sea Playroom 1
Whether your children are into animals, playing sports, dressing up as princesses and knights or dreaming of the ocean blue, chances are we have a mural theme to make their bedroom, playroom or bathroom an exciting and inviting space. When mom Jerisha in Killeen, TX was planning an ocean themed playroom for her twins, she found our Under the Sea Stencil Kit on Amazon and was sold! Though she considers herself crafty, she told us her artistic ability as far as painting was nil so she was so glad she found our easy to use stencils to create an amazing space for her children to play and grow.
Special Forest Themed Nursery Mural Creates Memories for a Lifetime 2
It’s very rewarding that we have so many customers that come to us for a second room mural for another child or for a “big kid” room as their child grows. We never take it for granted that we have such loyal customers. One such family is the Lackenbys in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. We originally met Jackie and her husband when they were looking for a farm themed room mural for their son. When pregnant with daughter Hollie, the pair came to us again for forest themed wall stencils so they could create a gender neutral nursery mural that could grow with their baby. Once the couple found out they were expecting a little girl they were pleased that the forest nursery mural could have some feminine touches to make it more girly. Our Forest Friends Wall Stencil Kit met their needs just fine and helped create a warm, inviting nursery for baby Hollie, now almost one!
Jackie told us that they chose stencils in order to have something more permanent. She was concerned that once the kids were a little older, they may peel the stickers. She also liked the idea of being able to pick her own colors for the room using stencils rather than stickers. Mom and dad wouldn’t necessarily call themselves artistic but think both of their childrens’ bedrooms look fantastic. Even though they used our self-adhesive stencil kit, Jackie found she was still able to add her own twist with features on the face/body as well as planning the arrangement of the pictures etc. Mom and dad didn’t vary too much on the standard mural kit but did make the animals a little different - tufts of hair here and there, different shades and colors, free hand work on their eyes etc. They also created the signpost name by hand. (You can now purchase a personalized stencil with your kit.) Additionally, they varied the height on the trees so they all wouldn’t look same. All in all, Jackie says the room took about 6 days to complete.
Her advice for first timers? “Plan for it to take longer than you expect! Be prepared, have many different brushes from tiny thin ones to outline/touch up at the end. Also purchase lots of makeup sponges to dab the paint - dabbing is better than brushing. Plan your layout, decide where you want things to go, and don't over/under fill any area of the walls.” She did mention to us that it took a little longer than they thought, in part because of a paint spilling incident. Her only complaint? “My only issue is that our walls weren't "perfect" enough before starting. There were a few uneven patches and lumps/bumps that I wish we had had fixed. Make sure your prep is perfect!”
Jackie says she and her husband just enjoyed knowing how beautiful the room is going to look, and being able to give that gift to their children. This mom of two says her hobbies are her children and she doesn’t have a lot of time for anything else! It was very important for mom and dad to create this special and magical place for their kids to call their own, rather than just a plain "run of the mill" room. Jackie says they will remember their first bedrooms for the rest of their lives! Something which makes it all the more special.

Princess Stencils Help Make a Place for Treasured Memories 0
Though our self-adhesive stencils are primarily sold for use on walls, they work great on windows, ceilings, doors and furniture too! Mom, Jessica from Signal Mountain, TN wanted to create a special wooden chest for Princess Gilleyanne, who was age 3 at the time. She found our butterfly and princess themed wall stencils on Etsy and though she hadn’t done another project quite like this before, decided to give them a try. Jessica tells us the results were wonderful and she had a great experience buying from My Wonderful Walls.
The self-adhesive stencils are very easy to use as they can be stuck on again and again for larger projects. Even with a smaller project such as Gilleyanne’s treasure chest, our easy to use stencils make being creative even better. Jessica chose a butterfly stencil, a princess stencil and a crown to decorate the chest for her little princess. With some yellow paint she was able to add these details to the wood chest and added the word “Princess” as well. She told us the stencils were ten times better than decals in her mind and made it so she could customize the project to her style. Being able to use the colors she wanted and her own vision was a plus in her mind. In addition to the stencils, Jessica distressed the chest making it appear almost antique. Jessica says she is not an artist but likes to try anything once and told us her theory is “Perfection is the enemy of beauty.” She even added some green butterflies to a side table with the same stencils she used for the chest as you can see below.
Little Gilley helped out with the project and mom said she is now hooked! Besides arts and crafts and taking care of her daughter, Jessica loves photography and hopes to add that in to her projects one day. Her advice for those using our wall stencils? “Be creative, explore and don't hold back. The stencils will do exactly what you want them too so have fun!”
In addition to a great product, Jessica appreciated the interaction she had with our customer service. She called it the best business interaction she has ever had and promises to be a long time customer. We look forward to a lasting relationship and more pictures of great projects!
